::::::::: A vintage Reader’s Digest Book turned book planter with a hint of Annie Okley flare
Made from a vintage Reader’s Digest Condensed Book, Upbound single book, book planters contain enough room for several small succulents and a few mossy decorations. Not to be forgotten, I lined the planting hole with an illustration from The Gift of The Deer (one of the stories contained in the book). Finishing it up, I marked the last pages read with a signature Upbound tassel.

Do you notice anything different about this planter? It’s vertical and it’s set comfortably upright; perfect for surfaces where space is limited.
Great Lives Great Deeds; what a great title. Are you inspired? Well I know I was and not only by the title but by the color scheme. The book was very pretty on it’s own but quite plain. Leading the eye upward, three flowers, in coordinating colors, are set within an ornate die cut pattern. And of course, this beautiful Orange / Coral / Poppy colored book wouldn’t be complete without it’s signature Upbound tassel in complementary gold and cream.

::::::::: A set of vintage books with a custom Chevon pattern
Inspired by the title of the beautiful teal book, I decorated the cover in a pattern that dates back to early 1800 BC. Chevron! With the book falling apart, I used the rescued pages to intricately cut the pattern from. Since all three books were minus artwork, I lined the Easy Plant hole with an image (rescued from another upcycled book) featuring a charming couple. I trimmed the hole in gold adding metallic white pedal shapes. Finishing it up, I marked the last pages read with a signature Upbound tassel.

::::::::: A set of vintage books featuring antique-style metal work
Is there anything more lovely than pink? I was instantly attracted these blushing pair and totally inspired by the scroll work on the binding and intricate details. Book makers sure knew what they were doing back then. To compliment all this fine detailing, I set the cover in a die cut pattern. Since all the artwork from The Bounty Trilogy was ripped out of the book, I lined the Easy Plant hole with an image (rescued from another upcycled book) depicting a blushing teacher being wooed by a colleague. Trimming the hole in gold, I outlined it with antique style nail heads. Finishing it up, I marked the last pages read with a signature Upbound tassel.

::::::::: A vintage book planter dedicated to young crime solvers with big imaginations
Spies, lies and espionage. The scribbles and marks I found within the pages tells a story of a young boy glued to edge of his seat while reading about bad guys and heros. I imagine these books were someone’s favorite bedtime stories, lovingly read as they turned from page to page. Unfortunately, they were filled with scribbles and ruined pages. I imagine this was the reason these books were overlooked and left unclaimed in the charity store I purchased them from. With aged covers and peeled unraveled threads, nothing can be better than a book ruined by being read one too many times. These books are properly aged to perfection and they have the smell to prove it.
Inspired by this I painted white geometric stripes to break up the monotony of the pattern on the cover. I wanted to give the book simple minimal touches and cover up the damage in the process. But the books, however, are quite beautiful on their own. The Easy Plant hole I left rough and lined with a handcuff print found in the end pages of one of the books, sealing in the roughness and textures. I completed the design by edging the books with metal and vinyl.

::::::::: A lovely collection of vintage key-lime books, properly distressed
I found this beautiful set of key lime books and fell in love with the color and subject matter so I just had to put them together. The Look Younger Live Longer book captivated me the most so I attached a vintage print from a 1970’s book about good hygiene. I distressed the print with layers of textured clear vinyl which bubbled in spots on the surface giving it a truly unique look. I lined the Easy Plant hole with another image from the same book depicting a girl conversing with a skelton. Then I trimmed the hole in gold. Finishing it up, I marked the last pages read with a beaded bookmark tassel.

::::::::: Vintage Book Planter with an Antique Car Theme
This beautiful set of blue books has a motor vehicle theme. With titles like The Iron Crew, Green Light and Wheels, I lined the planting hole with a photograph of an old Franklin (a luxury car made of lightweight aluminum manufactured in 1934). With my love of everything geometric, I cut the damage away from a few of the pages I rescued and laid them out so that the texture of the book frames the pieces. Lastly I framed the Easy Plant hole with a cut of distressed, textured paper; which feels a bit like tire treads.
